Ackergill Tower is a striking 15th-century castle just 17 miles from John O’ Groats. This 5-star hotel provides traditional and elegant rooms set in 32 acres of grounds with free parking and a private beach. Each en suite room is individually styled and has access to free Wi-Fi. The rooms show original features and all boast stunning views over either Sinclair’s Bay, the croquet lawn or the Heart of Caithness. The hotel also has several cottages which can house up to 10 guests. Guests will be delighted in the spectacular wood-panelled dining hall by a decadent seasonal menu. The grounds and public rooms provide an elegant setting for any relaxed getaway to the Highlands. Golf and fishing is available at a 10-minute drive, and on-site activities are also possible such as clay pigeon shooting and cookery demonstrations. Wick Airport is under 10 minutes away by car, and Inverness is just under 4 hours’ drive away.

Ackergill Tower bedrooms are over 5 floors. There is no ground floor accommodation and there is no passenger lift. Dinner must be booked in advance. Dinner is served between 18:30 and 20:30 every evening. No lunches are available. Top-floor rooms are accessible by a spiral staircase only. Smugglers Pub is a wedding venue and not a pub that serves meals.
